I was tipped off today about the Shure Cast, a podcast by Shure that explores microphones. It’s been going since last summer and they have 8 episodes up at their website or via iTunes. Having long been a user of SM 57’s & 58’s I was curious to hear about the history of these mics. It was actually an interesting show. The podcast is more than just a promotional tool for Shure though. There are shows discussing common miking techniques, wireless technology and even the FCC. You can find it here.

Here are my personal Top Ten Picks from Winter NAMM 2008. Due to the fact that these choices are from different genres, the picks are in no particular order.
1) URS - Saturation Plug-In
Realistic sounding saturation at a reasonable price? I’ve yet to find a saturation plugin that does the trick for me. Most just make things sound “different” but not necessarily “better”. Given their track record, URS are the ones who can do it.
